Interesting topic! Travelling by plane definitely has its upsides and downsides, and I’ve experienced both quite a lot.
Advantages:
Speed & Convenience: This is the biggest one. Nothing can beat flying if you need to cover long distances quickly. What would take days by train or road can be done in just a few hours by air.
Global Connectivity: Flights connect countries and continents. Without air
travel, international tourism and business would be extremely limited.
Comfort (in most cases): Modern aircraft are fairly comfortable, especially compared to long overnight bus rides. You have reclining seats, air-conditioning, food, and entertainment on longer flights.
Safety: Statistically, flying is one of the safest modes of transport. Accidents are rare compared to
road travel.
Scenic Views: Honestly, nothing beats the view of clouds, mountains, or cities from above—it’s a unique experience you don’t get otherwise.
Disadvantages:
Cost: Air tickets are usually more expensive than buses or trains, especially if you don’t book in advance. This makes it less accessible for some people.
Delays & Cancellations: Weather, technical issues, or overbooked flights can cause frustrating delays. Unlike trains or buses, when one flight is canceled, it can ruin an entire trip.
Security Checks & Waiting: The actual flight may only be 2 hours, but with check-in, security, boarding, and baggage claim, the whole process can feel much longer.
Limited Luggage: Airlines have strict baggage allowances, and extra luggage can be really costly.
Environmental Impact: Planes burn a lot of fuel, and flying has a higher carbon footprint compared to trains or buses.
Personal Experience:
For me, flights are a lifesaver when I need to travel for work or visit family far away. But I do find the entire airport process stressful, and I miss the flexibility of road or train travel where you can just hop on and go.
So I’d say planes are unbeatable for long distances and
international travel, but for shorter journeys, I still prefer trains or even road trips—they feel less rushed and more enjoyable.
What about everyone else—do you prefer the speed of planes or the slower, more relaxed vibe of trains/buses?
